Porch roofs and bay window roofs

Small roofs leak just as much as big ones, and porches and bays are where a lot of front-of-house leaks start. We build new porch roofs, re-cover bay roofs and put right the ones that were done quickly.

What we build and repair

Recent jobs include a new porch roof in grey plain tiles with dry verge and ridge and PVC cladding to the gable, and a small bay roof stripped and relaid in EPDM after it had been leaking:

  • New porch roofs in plain tiles, interlocking tiles or slate, matched to the house
  • Bay window roofs re-covered in EPDM, lead or tiles
  • Dry verge and dry ridge so there is no mortar to fall out
  • Lead or EPDM where the porch or bay meets the wall
  • PVC cladding to porch gables and bay fronts
  • New guttering and fascias to match

Where small roofs go wrong

Almost always at the wall. The joint between a porch or bay and the house is where water gets in, and a fillet of mortar or a strip of sealant there will crack within a few seasons. We finish that joint with lead or a properly turned-up membrane. The other common fault is a bay roof laid with too little fall, which holds water against the window head.

Matching the house

A porch is the first thing anyone sees. We match the tile, the colour and the details to the main roof wherever we can, and show you the tile before ordering so the new roof looks as though it was always there.

Questions

How long does a porch roof take?

Usually one to two days.

Can you match my main roof?

Almost always. We bring samples and show you before ordering.

My bay leaks into the window. Is that the roof?

Often it is the joint at the wall or a roof with too little fall. We check both before pricing.
